Carrots
Carrots are a difficult crop to grow organically, often slow to emerge and outgrow the weeds. They are a critical crop for market growers however, and we have focused on identifying varieties with vigorous growth, excellent flavor and storage. We have not had severe disease pressure in our trials. We are still looking for outstanding reds and purples and are collaborating with carrot breeder Phil Simon to test some of his red ad purple breeding lines.

We have tried several carrots claming to be similar to Bolero (Texto, Rumba, Dolciva) which are available as organic seed, but so far have not found one with all its characteristics. Classic carrot flavor, stays sweet in storage. Has light orange internal color.
